Two or Three Cemeteries Ride from Maidu Tomorrow (...

First, the link in the ride description was an old one and doesn’t work any more. I corrected it in the ride description this morning so if you copied the link from the ride description before then, you need to update it. Here are the correct RWGPS links:

Short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40843574

Long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/53277820

Note that the two routes have different rest stops with the short route stopping at Pause Coffee in Loomis and the long route stopping at North Fork Chai in Newcastle. On the long route, if you want to stop at the new coffee place, Never Coffee (formerly Newcastle Produce), feel free to do so. Also, I’m OK if you want to cut off the loop down Rutherford Canyon either because of heat or traffic on Barton, feel free to turn left on Laird rather than right and then right on Cavitt Stallman which you then take all the way to Douglas. If you do so, please correct your mileage when you sign out since you will have shortened the route by a couple miles.

I’m aware that it’s going to be relatively hot tomorrow with a high near 100F. The temperature will only be ~75F at the ride start (8:30 am), but will get up to around 90F by noon. Despite the heat, I don’t plan to change the start time, but I will be at the ride start by 8:00 am, so you can sign in and start then if you want. I plan to only do the short route because of the heat, but I won’t start until 8:30. If you plan to do the long route be sure to have a buddy to ride with.

Ride update,

I rode along part of tomorrow’s long route today with the Wheelmen.  At mile 20, the turn on to Old State Hwy is closed due to road resurfacing.  You’ll have to go through the tunnel and turn right on to Hwy 193 then left onto Old State Hwy and decide if you want turn right  to Never Better Coffee or left to North Fork Chai.

Never Better Coffee is next to the pizza restaurant and not at the old Newcastle Produce location.

Mark,

Thanks for letting everyone know about this road closure and the location of Never Better Coffee.  I obviously haven’t been there yet, especially since I also got the name wrong too.
