The long is basically the same but adds about 4 miles of winding around the roads and bike trails in the neighborhood north of Oak Avenue. Start at 5 Points. OK, none of this riding my age in miles, maybe kilometers. This is really my Wild Chicken ride in disguise with a rest stop at the Starbucks in downtown Loomis off of Horseshoe Bar Rd. There are three routes with grades of D33/C-37/C41 and total climbing of 1,100, 1,450 and 1,700 ft, respectively. Since the longest route is closest to my age in kilometers, I will probably sweep that route, but no guarantees. As the name of the ride says - it’s my birthday and I’ll ride if I want to. ;-)

Both rides go up Green Valley to Malcolm-Dixon and then Deer Valley. Short ride turns at Starbuck Rd to get over to Cameron Park for a rest stop at Team Cycle Cafe. Long route continues to climb up to Rescue and Shingle Springs via Ponderosa Rd. returning to the Team Cycle Cafe in Cameron Park via Durock Rd and the gated community of Cameron Estates. Both return routes are the same climbing Hollow Oak Dr. to El Dorado Hills and then another small climb on Brittany Way. The short and long routes have about 2,800 and 3,700 ft climbing total, respectively. Grade: C39/B50. RWGPS links to be added later.

Both routes follow a loop from Winters to Vacaville roaming through the east side of the English Hills on the way out and coming back by way of Pleasant Valley and Putah Creek Roads. The long route includes out and back climbs to the top of Cantelow Rd. on both the front and back sides. Rest stop is in downtown Vacaville at the Pure Grain Bakery Café. Day-of registration is $85 and is available beginning at 6:45 AM.

Day One - 10am, 37miles, 1706’ - we’ll ride from tiny Graton for lunch on the patio at Healdsburg Bar and Grill on the plaza. Shorter option is a 25-mile out-and-back that also meets at Healdsburg. Both routes swept. An acceptable longer alternative is to start the ride at the Lodge in Occidental. This out-and-back is not swept.

Day Two (Option 1) - 52miles, 2371’ - we’ll take a side trip along Austin Creek to the slightly uphill Cazadero Highway General Store and deli before heading to the spectacular Sonoma Coast and Bodega Bay for a seaside lunch. Shorter options available. Swept.
• Day Two (Option 2) – 62miles, 4446’ - offers more challenge on steep, remote Fort Ross Road with an 18% descent on Meyers Grade to the Coast Highway and the Russian River at Jenner. No sweep.
• Day Two (Option 3) – 55miles, 5200’ (est.)- takes even more challenging King Ridge Road out of Cazadero. No sweep.
• Yet another Day Two option on all routes is beautiful, rural, 9-mile Coleman Valley Road from Highway 1 to Occidental. Spectacular views (but not for the faint-of-heart), No Sweep.

This ride includes two parts - a swept 24-mile course that includes hilly Folsom trails and roads, and a non-swept optional 7-mile circle from La Bou to the fish hatchery. Riders are invited to start the 7-mile loop at 9:00 AM, or after completion of the 24-mile loop. The sign-in sheet will be available at the ride leader‘s white dually PU, but the ride leader may not return from riding the fish hatchery loop until 9:45 am. The ride leader will start the 24-mile loop at 10:00 am sharp. We almost always stay for lunch at La Bou‘s after the ride, so bring your appetite! The total climb is 1,300 feet.
