East Sac‘s answer to Whitey‘s Jolly Kone is Cookie‘s Drive in, a modest take-out-only joint near CSUS that‘s been serving up fancy burgers and arguably the area‘s best, thickest shakes for 65 years. As with Whitey‘s, Cookie‘s opens at 11, so the ride leaves at 9:30. The route loops through Land Park, Downtown and East Sac before returning via Meadowview and the Pocket. The route has been slightly modified and has a new catalog number. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45671201
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.

Early last year Husick‘s Taproom changed hands for at least the third time since it first began operation, and after being shuttered for months it reopened in early July unbeknownst to me. The former BBQ joint has switched to pizza, but there‘s still decent beer on draft. So, I‘m bringing back rides to Husick‘s, but with a revamped route that now starts at Barrio instead of Windbridge/Rush River.
This is an easy route of moderate length that travels familiar roads in the Greenhaven/Pocket and Clarksburg areas, and starts relatively late to accommodate Husick‘s opening time of 11. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44796871
Note: Registration deadline is 12 hours prior to the ride start.
Folsom Village Shopping Center
Let‘s get out to Park Dr in Rocklin and set a baseline for improvements over the year. I will sweep the 39 mile route.
The difference between the 39 and 41 mile routes is the climb up the last part of Park. There is also an option for about 33 miles that will be noted on the cue sheets for both other options with either RWGPS route for the return being able to be used from that point. 39 and 41 miles routes are below and on the club site under my name.

Northwest corner of parking lot next to Steady Eddy’s near Railroad Ave. and Abbey St. in downtown W
Formerly known as my English Hills ride, this ride goes from Winters to Vacaville through the English Hills. The rest stop is at the Pure Grain Bakery in downtown Vacaville. Due to a road closure on Cantelow Rd. the direction of the long route has been reversed so that you climb Cantelow Rd. from the back side (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45945311). The distance is still about 44 miles with 2,000 ft climbing. The short route has not changed and goes around the English Hills in a clockwise direction staying on the lower rollers in the English Hills. It’s 36 miles with 1060 ft climbing (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41429095). The two routes split on Putah Creek Rd after crossing the bridge out of Winters, so you need to decide early on which route you’re doing. A number of us go to Steady Eddy’s or Hooby’s Brewing in downtown Winters after the ride for lunch and a recovery drink ;-).

Ride through some different neighborhoods on this 29-mile D-ride. New to the Bike Hikers but this restaurant on El Camino Ave. is a long-time favorite in the Park Hill Estates neighborhood. Flap Jackets 1A https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46073449
Ostensibly named after the nearby Tallac Village neighborhood, today‘s destination at 60th St. and 14th Ave. is actually in the Tahoe Park area just to the north. Village Drive In is one of three old-school roadside diners within easy riding distance of Barrio (the others being East Sac‘s Cookie‘s Drive In and Whitey‘s Jolly Kone in old West Sac). All three offer similar fare that‘s neither a gourmet nor a particularly healthful throwback to the days when nobody on this side of the Pacific even heard of tofu. In addition to the typical shakes and burgers, it‘s rumored that Village offers some vegetarian options, although I could not confirm this. But who goes there for brussels sprouts anyway? Since the drive in opens at 11, the ride leaves at 10.

Following essentially the same route as we would to Carol‘s, we‘ll do a loop through the Clarksburg area and wend our way north to downtown West Sac and this little corner cafe that features plein air seating amid a variety of fruit trees. The route has been revised to eliminate the currently closed levee trail and shortened by three miles. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43899478
