Let’s pedal around Granite Bay, Roseville,Penryn, and Loomis to Roanie’s for a treat.
The long route will pass through the neighborhoods adjacent to Morningside Drive and ride on familiar roads, Brennans, Gilardi, Taylor, and Callison, before stopping at the coffee shop. On the return, it climbs Sierra College and turns on Scarborough, East Roseville Prkwy and back to Maidu Park.
The short route is more direct to the coffee shop, and the return skips the Sierra College climb.

Timing not yet determined, but we will spend 2-3 hours setting up the barriers and the bike racks in preparation for the GAT bike-to-boat transition.

Start the week with a coffee ride to Old Fair Oaks from a different start location for most of the club riders. Great new trail entrance from the parking lot and good bathrooms at the start. Plenty of parking in lot and on the street.

The route stops in old West Sacramento for a blast from the past, Whitey‘s Jolly Kone. This hamburger/hot dog/fries stand may have opened in 1963 but it‘s got a real ‘40s-‘50s vibe. What make it really stand out are its unusual milkshake flavors, including banana, blackberry, Butterfinger, butterscotch, cherry and peanut butter. There are also sundaes of various types and soft serve cones. Also available are a number of burgers, dogs, burritos, tacos and tostadas and a handful of side dishes. Health food it ain‘t, but the menu will take you back to the days when you could pig out on this stuff and not gain an ounce. This is classified as a lunch ride, but do what you want. During the winter this joint opens at 11 and so the ride starts at 9:30; summer hours begin at 8:30 so the ride leaves at 9 then. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. Northeast corner of the South Hills Shopping Center, near South Land Park Dr. and 35th Ave.
Come join me on this easy flat ride out to Lenise’s Cafe in West Sacramento. All routes will be taking the new Del Rio bike trail down to Freeport. There are short and long gravel and road routes. Both gravel routes get on the levees along the Sacramento River and the deep water channel. These gravel routes are still mostly paved, so gravel or cyclocross bikes are best, but a mountain bike may work if you’re fast.
Gravel, short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794611
Gravel, long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794698
Short and long routes for road bikes are still an option.
Road, short: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794778
Road, long: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46794841
The short and long routes separate after crossing the Freeport Bridge. The short routes turn right on South River Rd and head towards West Sacramento, with the gravel route staying on the levee when it turns to gravel. The long routes turn left on South River Rd. and then right on either Pumphouse Rd. (gravel) or Willow Point Rd. (road) before heading back to West Sacramento. After Lenise’s Cafe the routes separate again with the gravel routes getting on the levee along the deep water channel and the road routes staying on the streets. All the routes come together on South River Rd at the end of Village Parkway and then cross over the Tower Bridge and return through Land Park getting on the north end of the Del Rio bike trail by Riverside Blvd and taking it down to 35th Ave. I will sweep the short gravel route. If you plan to do one of the other routes I recommend that you ride with someone.

While you‘ll find the typical coffee/tea/pastry shop fare such as mochas, lattes, cappuccinos and such here, Chaii Cafe is anything but typical. This newcomer to the local coffeehouse scene, located in a former Starbucks at 65th St. amd Broadway, has really upped the game. Chaii is a place for discovering the most exotic spins on the old standbys, such as fruit chais, milk chais, Indian chais, lattes, mochas and bubble teas. A small but diverse snack selection includes bagels, Malaysian paratha and even tacos. Give the strawberry mint chai, blue passion chai or red velvet frappe a try and you‘ll never be satisfied with plain ol‘ Starbucks again. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot. This ride is all about the *shift*, and I‘m not just talking about gears. For, while I tend to avoid the bike trails, this route takes us out to CSUS where we‘ll shift to the Jed Smith, exiting at the Del Paso crossing and proceeding on the boulevard to our designated stop, Shift Coffee House. We‘ll then proceed on our shifty way back to Jed Smith and into Old Sac, where we‘ll continue on the streets of Land Park to home base. Ride starts from the NE corner of the parking lot.
